Daveverdo,
It's been almost 6 years since the purchase of this Grill/Smoker. Do you still have it or does anyone else still have theirs.
I just picked one up from Facebook Marketplace and pretty excited to use it.
We've been smoking for atleast 20 years now, using Apple and Cherry woods. Using horizontal and vertical smokers.
I've had mine for many yrs, and it's still in great shape, and working fine.
Mine won't run on the low smoke setting it flames out for some reason. Which isn't a big deal to me, as I normally smoke everything on the high smoke setting, or 275*.
Camp Chef sent me a new temp rod for inside the smoker, and a new control panel for free, but I won't install them until the thing craps out completely.
There is basically no rust on the thing. I pressure wash it once a yr, hit the outside with high heat paint then reseason the inside.
I'm not super happy with the pellet cookers, as I like a relatively heavy smoke profile. I get that using my drum smoker these days.
I got rid of my offset smoker, it was killing me on long smokes tending to it.
The best thing about pellet cookers are thier set it and forget it ways.
I used a wireless thermometer, and set the probe so it has a high low alarm. I set the alarms for 25* over and under my cooking temp, and that works out great for me.
It lets me know if I have a flame out, or run away cooker by an alarm that goes off on my phone.
Don't ever trust these cookers, shistuff happends, is my moto.
When you start up the grill, keep the main cooker door open for at least 5 minutes, or you may get a nice little smoke explosion. It's never happened to me, but Ive seen it happen on my brothers, It made me spit beer through my nose, laughing.
I have told him many times to leave the door open until the grill heats up a bit, but NO he's way smarter than me. LOL!!!!
Good luck, and if you have any questions, shoot me a message.
Dan.
