Now that's a professional build right there if I may say so.  Funny enough, I work in the IT field, and was intrigued when you mentioned the server cabinet as a potential future smoker.  We were moving out stuff from the server room from our old office, and I had the same idea.  The thing that stopped me was the fact that it has all the cooling holes on the sides, and usually the cabinet doors themselves.

Great looking smoker man, I really dig that!

Thank you all. Can't wait to really get to smokin'.
Had not considered a dang fireplace valve. I knew someone would have an idea I was drawing blanks racking my brain.

Brilliant!  What an ingenious idea!

Now you have me thinking.  The company that installs all the traffic signals for central Texas is like 5 minutes from my house . . . .

You can also use the gas valve from a floor furnace it's a millavote system.Put it with a oven thermostat or pid and then you will be set.If you need help with wiring it pm me.

Dazdnaz, where did you find the bell fitting for the burner orifice? Been looking at those control boxes, myself, while waiting on the light to change. Good job Thanks   TC

The fitting was found at a local plumbing shop, Naughtons. Its a 2" to 1" I'll post a close up when I can.
I would love to have a pid style control gonna have to research that. I was thinking that when i was going to go electric. Wasnt sure how it would work for gas.

Well after several hours of screwing around with the AMNPS I have determined that a chimney is in order. The small vents on the underside will not allow for the airflow needed to keep her going.

At least that's what I have come up with as an answer, no smoke when the door is closed but if I open the small door it starts to kick out smoke. I really dont want to cut into the cabinet but gotta do what I gotta do, fortunately I got a 3' piece of 4" exhaust pipe from a guy a work that should do. I'll have to fab a damper for it (should be fun).

Well here is an update with a couple photos... Still wrestling with the AMNPS not that it is its fault it is my design...

-Added chimney

-built a box around the AMNPS in hopes of allowing it to pull its own air supply out of the hole on the bottom (I think the burner is snuffing it out).

-I have also concluded just today that Todd's pellets are gonna be the way to go. I was using some pellets from Sportsman's WH for testing and they would not stay lit (did not want to waste my sample Oak) well after wrestling with it I decided to try Todd's and wahla. Ordered up some more pellets cuz once I get this sorted I am going into production.

I know that I have said this once already ….but that is one nice build!!! I really like the ideal …..Thanks for the pic…Shoneyboy

Dude this thing rocks!!!! I love the great ideas on this forum. I'm looking for ideas for a cold smoking chamber for hanging lotsa bacon. This would work.

In my area apparently when they replace these cabinets (someone wrecked into one etc...) they just scrap them.

So if you can buddy up to your traffic engineers or sub-contractors (swing by with a 6 pack while they are working on one) you may be in the money (so to speak)

I just hounded them and finally got the go ahead. (still trying to figure out what to do with the gadgets that were left inside)

Amazingly the recovery time is pretty quick with the Hardibacker, I thought opening the huge door would be a problem but not that bad. lots of room to work when its open.

Ive run enough smoke through this thing testing it that Shes nice and seasoned now too.
