First use last night in 35 degree weather out of the wind and I could not get the temp above 260 degrees. Frustrated.
 
Welcome to the forum from Minnesota. Any way you can wrap a welders blanket around it? Using good quality pellets? Did you have a temp probe you know is accurate giving you the 260 temp? Maybe the one on your smoker is off?
 
Should ask if you have the pellet version or the electric version? The electric version shows a top temp of 350°. Pellet shows 420° top temp
