Got a compressed air tank from my buddy that I was thinking of using as a fire box till I realized it was galvanized. Any thoughts can I grind it off and burn it or just stay clear of the situation?

It depends. Is the tank galvanized on the inside. If it is i would tend not to use it unless you give it a really good sanding to remove the zinc on the inside and the outside. You will need to make sure all of the zinc has been removed before using it. Burning it out will not remove all the zinc unless you place it in a oven and bring the temp over approx 1200 degrees to burn off the zinc wihch is not probable......

If its on the outside only I would go ahead and remove/sand the zinc, paint and go with it
