Now, I'm not being a smart guy here, but it only needs to be cleaned when it needs it. Grease spill, flKing of the seasoning, heavy buildup etc... My cookers seldom get more than a brush down a couple if times a year, and they are used a lot!
 
Welcome Harley.  I seldom clean mine with the grates being the exception.  Like my pal Cranky, I'll occasionally take a scraper or putty knife and knock off the big chunks of buildup. b
