Anyone else smoking a brisket for Thanksgiving instead of doing a turkey? My wife's Polish family is coming in to town tomorrow for thanksgiving, and none of them (or myself) are big fans of turkey, so I'm going to smoke a Thanksgiving Brisket...new tradition!

Nothing wrong with that. Here we stop eating poultry the 1st of Nov. The family is pretty excited to have Turkey and insist on tradition set by my Mom. Brings back happy memories of Grandma's cookin' from when the kids were little...JJ

Going with turkey and a double smoked ham. I don't like turkey either, although I sure like the smell of it all coming together. For the last several years, we have been doing a marinated flank steak or three for Christmas. In the next week or two I'm going to do a test drive on a smoked flank steak and see how it turns out.

I mentioned in another thread that I found a Mexican grocery. They have flank steak which I never see in any of the mainstream groceries around here. My mom used to cook it back when it was inexpensive, we had fun with that.

My wife usually gets the flank steak from a local butcher, but on occasion our local grocery stores will have it.

Nothing says happy Thanksgiving like plugging in the smoker and turning it on only to watch the display flicker a couple of times and then go out. I now have a hundred pounds stainless steel brick...happy day.
