I have been busy. A good kind of busy. I have taken up golf again, I won some contests in Toastmasters and had to travel for that and the garden is starting up. It was time to reward myself.
The supermarket had some tri tip chunks so I decided to do them in the mini. Nothing fancy, just some good beef.
I started by applying some Cabela's Whiskey Steak Seasoning.
I fired the mini up with a full chimney of Kingsford and used a couple of chunks of bourbon whiskey barrell. I let it fire up to 450 F and tossed the steaks on.
When the internal temperature got to 90 F (about 12 minutes) I flipped the steaks and put the lid back on.
It took about 10 minutes more for the IT to get to 130 F which is as rare as She Who Must Be Obeyed will allow.
I took them off and covered them with foil for about 10 minutes.
We served them with potato and green salads.
The Verdict
Cooking a tri tip this way doesn't char the outside very much but getting the mini hot gives it a nice exterior. The pink throughout and the tender juicy texture is great.
This is one of my favourite meals. Nothing fancy, just good.
