Well figured I would introduce myself. I spend almost all of my time on gun forums. I've been cooking on gas for probably the past 10 years and my gas grill rusted out inside towards the end of last year. Was looking at a new Weber but those were upwards of $1000. I said to myself that's ridiculous so I ended up going to Home Depot and got a Weber kettle grill 22 inch.
Bought some lump charcoal and grilled up some burgers to break it in, man they were so much better than a gas grill it was unbelievable. My second task over memorial day weekend was smoking two racks of baby back ribs. Did some research on the Internet before I found this website and gave it my best shot. I bought some Kingsford competition briquettes and used the snake method. I brined the ribs overnight and then put on a dry rub several hours beforehand. The kettle grill maintained a temperature of around 250 without any real problems. Smoked them for three hours, picked them up by one end and they only bent a little bit so I put them on for another hour. I guess they turned out okay but I think I can do a better job.
Anyways that's my first experience with smoking. I grilled some chicken leg quarters last week and they were okay but I want to try smoking them instead.
Just getting into smoking even though I don't have a real smoker it's a kettle grill. I am already becoming obsessed wanting to do so many different things. I guess I will start another thread because I have some questions about the leg quarters etc. Anyways that's my introduction and how I ended up here hopefully I can find some help on the site and meet some nice people.
