Holiday Greetings to all,
I'm going to smoke a 12lb ham tomorrow and I have a question.
To keep the ham from drying out while smoking, would it be a wise
idea to put some apple juice in the pan below the ham? I'm going
to use a spray bottle with apple juice but I don't want to keep opening
up the smoker letting out the heat and smoke. The temperature tomorrow
is going to be 38.

I don't know what Smoker you're using, but Check these out:
Double Smoked Ham
Double Smoked Spiral Sliced Ham

Check the way I baste the Ham with my automatic fat dripping pan.

Thank you for the quick reply Bear. I have both of those bookmarked on my computer but unfortunately my Traeger has only one shelf. Do you put a water pan in your smoker when you do
your hams?
 
Here is variation of putting the fat on upper shelf.
