Purchased my first smoker recently and it's huge. I posted a different thread on it here and received some great feedback! Well a few days ago I ran across this smaller offset smoker for a great price. It appears to be a Brinkmann Cimmaron. I picked it up today. 16"x16" firebox. 30"x16" cooking chamber. 1/4" steel. I was working on my 1st smoker and got sidetracked with this lol. First thing I noticed is this thing is sooo short I almost have to sit to use it. This thing needs some height to it. I don't see any rot anywhere. Just the usual surface rust. One of the wheels needs an end cap. Easy fix. Appears to have everything. It sure is a lot easier to move around compared to the other freight train I bought. From what I have read I guess these are early Brinkmanns?

Yup, decent cookers. You can have fun with that little guy. Maybe a mod or two along the way but they are fine backyard cookers.

Being that this smoker only has a 30" main chamber, won't this burn the meat since it's closer to the firebox?

Heck yeah, a little clean up and you'll have that cooker running like a dream.

I wish I could find an original Brinkmann. Decent quality and workmanship.
Another example of a company (name) bought out and cheapened into a PoS product that finally went bankrupt.
Yes, you have to keep your fire under control or it is possible to get too hot on the firebox end.
Rotating meat helps to even things out.

I was looking for an early Oklahoma Joe and almost bought an older new braunfels before I bought my 1st smoker. Then this 2nd smoker randomly popped up. Small drive to get it but for price I couldn't pass it up. Only one I've seen by me in a long time. Needs to be cleaned and tightened up via the leg bolts etc.

One thing I don't like about this is the firebox is on the left side. May not be a big thing to most but I'm not a fan.

Can almost fit the new one in the old one! :emoji_laughing: Look forward to seeing it all cleaned up and ready to roll.

Little elbow grease and you have a nice smoker! Man how long ago did Brinkman build with 1/4" steel?

I bought a final generation Brinkmann offset with very thin metal and terrible workmanship. I didn't buy it for the offset, but for the charcoal pan in the cook chamber for direct grilling. I just wanted a new charcoal grill with more room than a kettle. Well I rebuilt that charcoal pan as the original was so paper thin it burned out.
I made a fire basket for the offset and even with the cheap of the build I smoked a lot of meat.
Offsets are a love hate relationship but produce outstanding cooks.

Got the pressure washer out today. The firebox has a lot of pitting. A lot of rust chunks were flying. No holes. Luckily it's as thick as it is. I could have scraped it more. Here are a few pics. I have accepted the fact that when I use this thing I'll be sitting in a chair.

What are people's thoughts to finish this up? Should I paint it then season it? Or just season it and go? Also do you guys paint the inside of these?

When I did mine, I just painted the outside. I was tempted to paint inside but that was just me wanting it to look pretty. I would just oil it and put a good season on, like cast iron.

I've got a portable sandblaster and media. I could take it apart and blast it out in the south 40 lol. I just don't know if that will even be worth the work. I already bought oil to season it. I would think even with it seasoned wouldn't the lids continue to rust under the oil? Mainly the FB lid.

I do like that patina look though with a little discoloration lol.
