The racks in my Pit Boss series 3 vertical smoker were too small to fit most full racks of ribs so I tried hanging them from the top grate with good results. I will be smoking my ribs this way from now on.

Did you have any problem with the rub sliding off? or did you use a binder
No problem at all. I did use yellow mustard as a binder but I don't think it makes much difference. The rub was applied the night before then the ribs spent the night in my refigerator before smoking the next morning.
 
I have several bacon hangers from back when you could buy bellies for less than bacon. They come in different widths and work pretty well for hanging rib racks.
