Hi folks! I've been lurking for a couple of weeks and finally decided to join the fray. A little about me-- I'm an Atlanta, GA native who moved up to Washington State about 6 years ago, and one thing among many that I miss from down home is the scarcity of good Q.

I know my way around a grill when it comes to burgers, dogs, and the occasional grilled chicken or steak, but smoking is a new animal I'm looking to tame. I've been doing some reading and studying and made my first purchase last night. Budget limitations, plus the desire to start on the cheaper side to learn the art, led me to the Char-Broil American Gourmet model 10201595. It's basically the Char-Broiller SnP's kid brother. It's small enough to fit my limited porch space, and until I develop a reputation, it's only going to be feeding 2 people at a time. I'm planning on adapting some of the SnP mods I've seen here, so with that in mind, would it be safe to say this is a decent entry-level unit?

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to learning from and sharing with you fine folks as I get into this hobby!

Jon

First off welcome Jon to SMF. You'll like it here cause there are alot of really good folks that would just love to help you with anything to do with smoking. Now we like having new folks here to give a new prospective on some of the ways we do things around here. Now if you are really new then I would suggest that you sign up fir the 5-day E-course it free and it will give you the basics on smoking and a few recipes too. Here's a link to it:

Now the next thing you have to do is run out and get something to smoke. Then just smoke it and if you have any questions just post  them here and we will answer all your questions that you might have. Oh yea there's no stupid questions we were all there in the beginning and we just really like to help others enjoy the fabulous smoked foods that we do. So again

Welcome to Your New Addiction

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!

mballi, beat ya to the punch. ;) I'm already 2 days into the e-course. I'm gobbling all of this info up with a vengeance! Gonna break in my little baby today with some burgers, while I spend the next week getting some modding supplies. Hopefully by next weekend, I'll be able to break it in proper with a couple of whole chickens. If I play my cards right, I'll be the envy of my co-workers the following week with smoked chicken sammies, salad, etc. for lunch ;).

Welcome to the SMF. Glad to have you here. Lots of good folks, great recipes and knowledge. Looking forward to your first qview.
