Just bought a used but in excellent condition 22.5 WSM for $120. I'm looking at doing some beef ribs but am curious as to how much charcoal to load in it.  Was thinking maybe 2 chimneys worth of unlit and 1/2 lit or is that overkill for just ribs.  Any advice or suggestions as welcomed.  I'm so pumped to have this great smoker.  I have a Chargriller Trio with a propane modified firebox but I want to venture into just charcoal.

Now as for using it.... I basically have two load options for mine: ring half full for shorter cooks or ring completely full for long cooks. For both methods I nestle a couple chunks of wood down in the unlit coals and then dump about 1/2 a chimney of lit charcoal on top in the middle.

Johnny knows his WSM. If you put too much charcoal in & the ribs are done. It's OK just shut all the vents & the fire will go out & you can use the unburnt charcoal next time. Also, that WSM looks brand new, you got a heck of a deal! Congrats!

Wow! That looks sharp. The only one I've seen on my local craig's list wasn't in as nice of shape as yours, and they were asking $300!

Was that from Craigslist or did you find it somewhere else? That is an amazing price!!
