My name is Tommy, I live in South West Florida (Naples,) so I'm blessed to be able to cook outdoors all year long.  I have been grilling for 15 years or so, but just now getting interested in smoking.  I have a charcoal-based 2-in-1 that allows for me to do both.  I have loads of wood available, living so close to the Everglades, I am really curious about exploring what that may have to offer.  I smoked a brined turkey for Thanksgiving (completely on a whim) that turned out great.  So, I'm really stoked on this process.  Any help with woods, equipment, easier things to get started would be great.  Just got into brining as well.  Thanks for y'all's help!

    Welcome to SMF!

I'm up in the middle of the state.

Lots of oak in Florida, citrus trees are also good wood to use.

Most of the grocery stores around sell a blend of splits, oak, hickory, & pecan in the winter.

I buy enough to last through the summer. Although I don't do much smoking in the summer, it's just too hot.

Thanks for the welcomes!  I know Kendall very well, BlueWhisper.  And, Joe, I used to live in Anderson, my wife's family is from that area, small world!  Al, I'll check some of the stores around here, looking forward to getting better versed in all of this!
