Smoking a couple boston butts for a Mom's Day BBQ. Did some mods to the gas grill for smoking and trying it out with these 2 bad boys, one 10lbs and the other 9lbs. So far it has done great maintaining a 225~238, seeing a 13Â° or less difference around the butts measured at 3 points. Was figuring this to be a 14 hr or so smoke. Started at 6am so I'll probably be pulling these at midnight..LOL. Internal temp is sitting at 153, been there a couple hours now. I didn't measure it later in the smoke, I wanted the thermometers around the meat to get a handle on the smoking temp. Here's whats going on so far. Rotated the butts and sprayed with a 50/50 mix of apple juice and whiskey every 1.5 hrs. Rub: 1C Paprika, 3/4C Chili Powder, 1/2C McCormick Garlic and Herb seasoning (salt free), 1/4C Brown Sugar. Coated with mustard and rubbed, ready to go on. After 1 hour. After 2.5 hours After 4hrs. After 5.5 hours. After 7 hours. After 8.5 hours. After 10hrs checked internal temp, 153. After 11.5 hours, internal temps still 153Â°. All for now will post more as it goes.
