Do you plan to treat the outside in an attempt to slow down the rust process? If so, what do you plan to do?

I don't know. I'm on the fence whether to have it all sand blasted and paint it, or just keep it old and rusty looking. My original thought was to keep it rusty. That 20" pipe has been sitting in the steel yard for at least 20-30 years and has plenty of steel left in it. As thicker steel rusts, (1/4" +) I think it reaches a point were the rust actually preserves the metal. I think this thing will definately outlive

me if I just leave it alone. But I'm interested to hear what others think about painting it or not. Maybe I'll take a poll and see what people have to say.

The patina looks really good.... like you say.... It will out live all of us... besides, if you give up smoking, it will make great yard art.....

my vote is to leave it... season real good inside and out....

I gotta say.. for me.. this is my favorite build of all the builds on the forums...

If I may... somehow incorporate levers of this style (a shorter version).. to control the intake vents ?? just a thought ...

I agree with JD, one of my all time favorite "metal" builds on this site.

Wish builds would make it to the Caruosel everyonce in a while. This one is definitely worthy of being shown off to members who might not see it.

Not that my vote counts, but I like the theme you have going. The rusty look makes the build!

Yes, I do need some kind of hand lever on the intake vents. Great Idea! I'm also not happy with the "Spring Loaded" Red Spigot door latches, so I think I'll do some kind of swivel bar latch off the side of the FB. Thank You for your comments.

I asked earlier in this thread about a paint scheme, But now that I see it almost done I'm thinking go with the rusty look. It adds to the look and I think paint would take away from it. My $.02 worth.

I didn't mean to say it didn't look great as is.  In fact as long as you're comfortable that it won't rust out on you I would leave it also.  It have more character this way.  Either way, very nice work.

No Problem, Thanks Rob! Didn't get it fired up this past weekend, too much going on with the Milwaukee Rally. The good news is my good friend at work has a big Apple tree he's willing to cut down

on his property up North. So weekend after next I'll be going up there. Then I'll have plenty of free wood for the winter.

It's hard to beat free wood!! Apple is great and free is better!! Just make sure you let cure before use, you dont want to smoke with wet wood it will taste nasty!.

Very lucky.  I still have to buy wood by the bag from home depot.  It's not as easy to find free wood where I am.

Can't wait to see your next smoke.

Thanks for mentioning that Wolfman. I was wondering if wet or especially green wood is OK to use. Hopefully that old Apple Tree will have some dead wood on it I can use right away.

I smoked 3 butts for a friend last Friday but used my little Brinkmann. I used Jeff's rub and finishing sauce and got rave reviews on the finished product. I smoked them for 6 hours until about 170 degrees  Friday night, then put them to bed wrapped in foil and in the cooler overnite. Then finished them off in the oven up to 190 degrees. It turned out to be the juiciest pulled pork I've made in a while. Made some coleslaw also from a couple of recipes I found on here. I really like the one with no mayo, just oil, vinegar and the other spices.

It's Alive!!!  Finally got around to firing her up. I've been busy for the past month and haven't been able to work on it much. Still need to do some things but couldn't wait any longer.

Both thermometers are holding very close to temperature.

Trying some chicken and ribs for her maiden voyage.
