Smell of Lemon, Oregano and Pork on the Q--- Opa !! " Souvlaki " Taste of Greece for supper

I am always wanting the taste and smell of a roasted pork ( or chicken ) Souvlaki on a grill flame.

Started off with a pork shoulder, cubed up . Skewered and soaked in a nice bath the night.

Made a nice batch of Greek style roasted potatoes ; cut up a bunch of small potatoes and a large onion.
Mixed up chicken broth, oil, lemon juice, salt, oregano and garlic. mixed with the spuds.
Into the oven for about 30 minutes, ( so they are baking in a very flavourful broth mixture.

While they are in the oven , I make up my Donair sauce recipe ( similar to Tzatziki, or at least what we serve and enjoy up here on Donairs or Gyro's )

So potatoes are ready to come out of the broth mix ( I did stir a couple times ) stread out on large foil pan and drizzle some of the broth on top. back in the oven for another 30 minutes or until crispy outside.

Made some rice with a hint of lemon also. And chopped the onions and tomatoes for the Souvlaki
Fire up the Q, and roast up the souvlaki. This is my favorite part other then eating them.

Potatoes are ready and the pork is done right.

Set it all up and let the ladies have their way with it all There are 4 of them tonight as a guest has a birthday on Sunday. Which is today now.

So I had to have an actual Souvlaki in the pita bread ( store bought ) Filled and rolled up like an ice cream and eat like a banana ( years ago ( 40+/- ) this is how I was told how to explain it to some one trying to eat this or a Donair )

I put 3 of the skewers in my wrap.

That is what I was talking about, the smell and taste of the pork and lemon and oregano , and the sauce.
I'm a happy guy ,

Thanks for following along with my trip to my flavour world

David

Oh yes and there was cake , and I had to have a big piece , as it was a triple chocolate cake, one of Monas fun to bake ones.

That looks fantastic David! I a huge fan of lemons and would of loved to sit down at that meal.

Thanks Brian for the love and the comment

Thanks it was a great meal, and one I have been wanting again for a while

You are like me, I love lemon, lime and or vinegar in or on a lot of my foods , maybe not my cake, lol

David

Looks good . I just did the Pop's brine thing on some chicken parts , but used orange instead of lemon . My gosh it was good .

Been wanting to do something like this without all the skewers , so I bought a basket for my spinner .
Nice cook David .

Yes was a very good meal, and I just cant get enough for this flavour.

I would try the orange flavour as it would be nice , in a different meal concept.
And like you I really enjoy the citrus in meals.

Love the basket idea for the spinner, will have to look them up. I have baskets for the smoker or Q , just not for the spinner.

Some folks , here ( Mona ) also like to eat it on the stick, classy lady I have here. Love her. lol

Thanks Dave for the like and the comment

Thank you about the post, and yes the meal was great, and I have a little extra for a wrap or 2 for a snack today.

Ha ha , it was Mona's evil step sister. We have to go through the motions to make Mona's mom happy :emoji_confounded::emoji_confounded:

Dang that is one might fine looking spread of eats right there! I think I would have just stood at the grill and consumed the skewers as they came off the grill! Very nice work!

Thanks civil for the comment

It was kind of a full meal deal, and you have to have all the parts , and put together on your own plate how you like it.
I did have one that kind of fell apart.....lol , so had to consume it right there

I could make a meal just with the souvlaki in the pita, but as a supper. Made the fixins.

We bought a new grill earlier this month and now he really wants to do kabobs. This looks to be the right combo for something he'd like.
