Tin Cup is excellent,
Buffalo Trace ( Older than the US).
Bulleit has been a standard over the holidays.

I have to put a plug in for a bottle of Templeton Rye. It was Al Capone favorite, they found the recipe after it’d been lost a while ago and we’re doing small batch, went national a few years back.I love the flavor!

This was originally made in the small town of Templeton, Iowa about 65 miles North of me. When demand overrode their production capacity they sold out to a distiller in Ill. Got into trouble as the label still said Made in Iowa. Got that ironed out and went national with the product. Mighty good sipping rye, but expensive. Last I looked it was over $40 a pint.
Guess I will stay with Canadian Reserve for a whisky sour.

I love bourbon but unfortunately I like the pricey stuff.
Old Forester 1910 and 1920.
Old Ezra #7
Penelope The Architect
Bakers 7
Evan Williams Bottled in Bond (great in an old fashioned)
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
Bookers

No one in my area had Old Forester Rye in stock for months, unless I wanted to pay a premium. I don't reward such behavior. TW's website said they'd have it in stock in Nov, then Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, and finally they stopped saying when. I checked their website once a week, and yesterday, they had it: 1L for $29. Picked up a bottle today, but I'm a driver for my wife tonight so no tippy sippy until tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

Initial thoughts on OF Rye. 1st sip. Meh. 2nd sip. Hmmm. 3rd sip. Oh, I like this! People talk about green apple and banana flavors, and that's what I expected to taste. Nope, didn't get either of those. By the third sip, I was tasting the Christmas cake spices I love in a less-sweet rye whiskey. The OF Rye nailed it for me.

Ive started to really enjoy Breckenridge Bourbon. Obviously made here in CO. If you can get it, ty it. Mid price range, very tasty.

Two new favorites from The Distillarium in Yakima, WA: No Man's Whizkey Barrel Strength Rye, and Cask & Spin Barrel Strength Triticale Whiskey. Both are great neat, but really open up flavors with a little water. The triticale, a wheat/rye hybrid, is different and quite unique. The locally grown Gazelle Rye has all the spice without the piney/eucalyptus flavors I dislike in some ryes.

Bourbon 1792, Scotch Glenfidich 12
Pro tip, if you like 1792, go buy a few bottles of Kirkland small batch.
It is $18 for a liter, and it's made by Barton 1792 Distillery, I buy a case whenever I see it, it's the best bargain going.

OOP's I hit bold text, and I haven't even been drinking. :emoji_joy:

That’s an old banjo wheel from a 37 Cadillac- I added a 50’s something center piece since I didn’t have the original horn. Rumor has it that may be from one of Capone’s rigs! (Especially late in the evening)

I picked up a bottle of Russells 6 Yr rye, thats pretty tasty stuff. I liked their 10 Yr bourbon, figured Id give the rye a try and glad I did.

I drink way too much bourbon to afford the "good stuff" regularly. It's funny, I get a bottle of bourbon for Christmas from our house cleaner every year. Last Christmas it was a bottle of Maker's 46, widely considered a good bourbon. I was excited for the treat since I drink bottom shelf stuff normally. Sometimes in plastic.

Turned out I liked it less than the bottom shelf stuff I drink! And I've drank plenty of Maker's 46 in my life...like the Skynyrd song says "I've drank enough whiskey to float a battleship around". Sometimes I think labels and hype have a lot to do with people gushing over certain liqueurs. Like Tito's Vodka. Sorry, way overrated in my opinion, but people like the name...vodka is vodka. I've been drinking martinis for decades, I can make them with bottom shelf vodka and like them just as much as the $15 ripoffs in the restaurants...and I drink them too. I guess it's because I actually want to taste the alcohol. Other people want to bury the taste. I'm hardcore I guess. I've drank it all and could afford more expensive booze but found most of it way overpriced and over-hyped.

The OP didn't specify bottle size in the cost requirements but I think I blow it away because I buy bourbon and vodka by the handle, or half gallon or 1.75L. The clerk at the liquor store (one of the few states that the State operates the liquor stores) Had to inform me recently that my purchase was over three gallons and its against the law to transport more than 3 gallons without a permit and showed me on the receipt where it acted as my permit until I got it to my destination!

I had bought a case of handles because Evan Williams Black was on sale and it was the end of the month. That's what I'm drinking and still stop and go "hmmm" on my first glass. $27 a handle on sale. Another backup bottom shelf bourbon that ranks as one of the best budget bourbons is Benchmark #8. It's a high-rye bottled by Buffalo Trace. Don't let the plastic bottle fool you, but go ahead and buy the pretty bottle instead if you want! It may have come from the same place!

I grabbed a bottle of the new Travelers this weekend to try out. A little pricy but I'm not mad at it :)

I laugh, local package store wants $60 for BT. I ain't paying that!
I bought 2 bottles in Colorado last January for $22.50.

Local guys not on my Christmas card list.

For $22.50, it may be okay at that price point. I paid $50 including tax, and I didn't think much of it. Not a lot of flavor for the price, imo; I heard someone else describe it as the "St. Croix seltzer water of whiskies."
