Update: today is surgery day, later this afternoon I get my leg put back together. Then I can officially be on the road to recovery. So thats a start. If all goes well, might be walking in 8-10 weeks, full recovery in 6 months...

Good luck with what ever happens today Dave.
Fingers crossed that they are very optimistic with the results of today and your recovery time

Thanks David! Its gonna be a powertool kinda surgery. one plate for sure, who knows how many screws. I think thats what drives the pain up. but it not optional. Stay tuned. I'll try to get pics of the post op xrays. should be pretty interesting

I found that age is equal to recovery. The older I get the longer the recovery.
Hope you beat the cycle.
well said.

They gave me a nerve block, but the first one missed so I woke up to rough pain. then they gave about every narcotic I had ever heard of, redid the nerve block. Got home much later that expected. never block is still doing its thing...they are magical. start the oxy already cuz then the block quits, it may get ugly for a bit.

I really appreciate all the support, sorry if I am posting all over...

Good luck to your recovery. Haven't been on my board in years and would really have to be careful probably. My mind would be saying one thing and my body might not agree with it.

I have that conflict all the time, mind says "you got this" body says "oh no you dont" bahahah well said. many of my friends have mentioned "my choices".

But I like this saying "everything will kill you, choose something fun".

Glad you got it over with now onto recovery and hope that goes smooth or as smooth as possible. Did he give you an idea of when you could start putting any weight on it

He did...but I forgot. Next Wednesday I'll get all the details. I thought he said as tolerated around 4 weeks? I'll update next Wednesday.

And thank you! felt like a lifetime of nothing happening, but it was just 12 days. three years ago I also had a 12 day delay on surgery due to a positive covid test on preop screening. Times have changed.

had a great visit with my ortho this morning! Stitches are out, completely unwrapped, cleaned and booted. Blown away at how good it looks!! I can put about the weight of my leg on it sitting up for 3 weeks, then start walking! Really love the speed this is happening at! Here are some pics. None of the implants yet...next appointment.

Overall, I love this Ortho Doc! Move to come in a few weeks.

Looks a lot like my tib/fib did.
What's your hardware count?

not sure...I did get to see the post op xrays yet. 1 plate for sure and im guessing 2 screws vertically into the tibia and at least 6 in the plate. that would be similar to what I got on the right ankle with the similar break. right one was a bimalleolar, this was one a trimalleolar. not sure he put a screw on the back or not...but there is no incision there so I assume no-it was a small crack. the tib.fib were both fully displaced.

No really, looking very good, and great news on the healing.

Between both legs , the bells will go off nicely at the airports for you

Thanks David! After 4 surgeries on the right ankle, there is no more titanium. Left one...gonna need to see see how it feels in shoes and boots. May or may not stay in.

Glad you are pleased with the results and like the Ortho team you have. Recovery will seem like forever but don't rush the quality work they did, and you'll be back in the saddle in due time.👌

Wise words! thank you! I am impatient, but my wife is not. so that helps me balance it out.

right now I can sit with my foot on the floor, boot or no boot which is amazing to say the least! I am happily shocked. three weeks like this, so I just need to give it time to loosen up.

But yes, Love the Ortho team! I had a few, this one is hands down the best yet. Worth the wait.

Wow that's impressive. It looks good for the amount of time it's been done. That boot and weight bearing is fast she wish mine had been that quick. Good luck and follow the doctor's and wife's orders

Good luck and well wishes. Glad surgery went well and they have a plan to get you moving sooner rather than later. Just remember to follow their plan and not push it because you want to do more.
