I found a big log of oak on the side of the road. Took it home now its sitting in the yard. What do I do with it to get it ready to smoke with?

Its a chargriller with the sfb. The oak is about 3 ft tall with two large branch ends coming out and is about 2 ft in diameter on each branch end. Its big. I didnt know if you needed to cut it up and let it dry or what.

I cut these rounds off of some cherry that was too long firewood lengths . They seasoned quickly and burn nice. I just split them up as I need them.

Chunked up in the black plastic container.

Others use longer lengths and split into small pcs . Either way should work for you.

If you can remove the bark I would do so. All those crevices in the bark can hold quite a bit of ugly stuff.

Of course it needs to be dried also.

Hehehe...

Cut into disks as pictured earlier. Will season faster. And since it has large branches out the trunk...better cut it THIN. Be a sommagun splitting to chunks otherwise.
