I have an probe thermometer on order and will be adding portholes to the pit to accommodate the probe running through the chamber side instead of the door.

Question is - how large should I make that port(s)?  I don't want to size it to the device that I have only to find out that other probes are much larger and or don't fit through the access hole.

What recommendations to you folks have?

Anyone ever added a chalkboard to the pit? I was thinking the front panels that I have might be good for that.....

I've never seen one on here and I've read pretty much all the reverse flow threads, but I've seen the chalkboard paint @ Hobby Lobby and it's a really good idea, it would come in handy during a smoke.....

That would make a really nice touch of class to an already way cool smoker! Can you make the white background have a similar patina to the service boxes?

Yep!  That's the plan - hence the crazy urban camo primer underneath.

The chain is from a 1960 something Allis and Chalmers motor grader.  We purchased one a few years ago and those are leftover parts from a repair.  I have more and I'd send it to you free but shipping to Canada would be turbo, 'eh.
Before I saw this post I sent you a PM regarding 3 of the links.  I'd certainly like 3 or 4 here in Virginia.  That is one fantastic build!

WOW!

This is probably the best build I have seen, you've got some mad skills with a welder! I don't have the skills myself but if I was rich and could purchase any trailer smoker, I think id want this one! Now ive got to go home and stare at my MES and Char Griller with an ashamed look and hope they morph into something awesome!
