Had to give the old beer can chicken a try. Smoked this bird using my vortex as a shield. Added apple wood to my coals. Seasoned the bird with a SPOG base and Killer Hogs BBQ rub and injected with creole butter. Cooked for 90 mins until IT was 165 in the breast and 175 in the thigh. This was my first go at a whole chicken and it turned out pretty good. Presentation of the final product could have been better but I could not find my hot gloves so I used tongs and as you can see she fell apart. Oops 😅. She still ate good. Have a great weekend brothers and sisters!! Looks great!! I love doing poultry this way. I’ve read the science doesn’t support it making poultry any moister but my results have always been awesome so I do it.

Yeah I read about that as well but it seemed to work this time just fine 😆.

That does look good. Ive read reviews that the Vertical Stands work well but actual Beer Cans or liquid in the container some stands have are of no benefit. It makes sense, a can of liquid inside a Cold Chicken is not going to get hot enough to generate Steam or vaporize any added flavorings. But hey, if you guys like your result, keep doing what works!..JJ

Looks good.. I'm curious if anyone that cooks this way has compared it to a spatchcocked chicken ?

Chicken looks great Adam. Back in the pre-Tracy era this was my favorite way of cooking it. Nice job sir.

I've done chicken just about anyway there is . My results are if you hit the internal temp , it's all good .

I'm not a fan of the beer can chicken with the actual beer can.. the stand seems to bee acceptable but I sure do enjoy the spatchcocked chicken and turkeys. I might pick up one of those stands and try a couple of chickens and compare them just for my own brain.

I have 2 of the stands . Don't use them much anymore , but it makes a good bird .
People always go right to " the liquid doesn't boil " Not sure I ever heard anyone say it did . It creates a moist environment inside the bird .
I'm not a spatch guy , but I get it . I just did one a few weeks ago . It's good .
I like whole brined and pumped birds . Just the way we like them .

Thanks everyone. My next whole chicken I plan to try the stand with no beer/liquid for comparison. This was my first go at a whole bird and I have to say the meat was very moist and tender and had loads of flavor from the seasoning and injection.
