Got a vasconia pot black friday for 28 bucks shipped.

Fits perfect on my test dummy.

Used the charcoal grate out of my 14" cheapo Walmart grill to trace out the bottom.

Drilled a hole and a jig saw to cut it out.  Be careful on this part, the pot is thin.

    The bottom cut out.

First grate installed and bolts for the second grate which ist here yet.

    Grate and diffuser installed.

El cheapo thermo. It is so cheap it wont even take a good picture.

The gold joe will be here on tuesday, depends on when if I finish the mini tuesday or wensday.

    Stay tuned.

Nice work Adam! Are going to mount the lid to the bottom of the pot?

No. Why would you do that?

The Vasconia is a great fit...mine just sits in snug as a bug and it's plenty solid.

If Adam ever needs a second diffuser he can just drill holes in the lid and set it in.

I like to do it as it lifts the pot higher out of the smokey joe. Gives a bit more room for charcoal!

Shoot we're having the craziest winter ever. Had a week of super cold weather, now it's been almost near 50 everyday. Zero snow, normally the mountains are loaded.

I will add the lid if I find that I need the extra room.

Looks like I could stack up to the diffuser.

Yea you could but i've never had the need other than a little above the basket height for a 9 hour cook @ 275 and that was for a 10 lb pork butt

When I use both racks for slower smokes I put the diffuser at the bottom of the pot on a rack. Therefore every little bit of space counts!!!

My pot has a ridge about 2 inches above the bottom that the diffuser sits on.

Adam I use that ridge to place my lower rack on, then I have a modified rack that can go past that ridge all the way to the bottom. That gives me ample room to put two butts in the smoker.

Can you cook that close to the fire?

When building my uds everyone said that you had to be 24 inches from the fire.
