How is ever body mounting their thermometers nut and washer or fitting welded on.

Weld 1/2 of a coupling for the threaded Taylor type therm.... I think they are 1/2" MPT... don't forget to drill the hole...

You mean like half of a 1/2 pipe connector / put together or whatever you want to call them.

Yes, or you can use it without cutting, it depends on how long your probe will stick through. If the probe is short, you need to cut it down so the probe end will stick into the cook chamber. If you have access to a pipe tap, you can tap a hole instead of using a fitting but that also depends on the thickness of your steel and can pain in the ass running a tap into a curved surface.

I hope someone didn't throw the wrong size couplings in the 1/2" bin..... that happens way too often......

No they are 1/2 I guess I've never seen threads that big in a thermometer. Can someone recommend a good insta read for decent money.

If you don't wanna spring for a Thermapen this one works pretty good

It's a Weber you can pick up for $10 or less. It doesn't compare to my Thermapen but it does pretty good & cost 10 times less - the moveable head is a nice feature on it...
