One more 1st butt thread.....

  1. Seems to be a few 1st butts going down this weekend, so I thought I would add my thread also.

    Got mine in the fridge all rubbed up right now. I am going to try and get up around 3am to get it started. I will post the Qview as I get the pictures on the computer.

  4. So, I managed to get myself out of bed at 3 and had the fire ready with the butt on the pit by 3:30.

    Here is the first of the Qview. The first picture is the butt right after getting it ready.

    This is the first time I ever got up at 3 am to cook something. Something tells me it won't be the last time.

    On the pit....

    I'm gonna leave it alone till about 6:30. I think I am gonna treat myself to an early morning beverage.[​IMG]

    well there you have are hooked...up at 3 am to cook and shoot pix? don't tell your friends they will have you commited!! whats this go back to bed thing???

    looks like a good start! ever hear of the slippery slope??? first just takin the time to smoke wich turns into starting a smoke in the am to getting up at 3 am to smoke to smokin all night long. you are on that slope man. but i tell ya theres a bunch of us on that slope and i cant think of a better slope to hang then this one!!! cant wait to see more pics...
  8. So far so good. This was taken at 7:30, the first time I opened it up... Added some coals and my temps went up. Had trouble trying to get them down to a reasonable level. I am right around 250 now and holding steady. I think I may try to get a brief nap. It's gonna be a long day, but I should have a nice reward at the end.[​IMG]

    yeah, I thought about a early rise and smoke also, but I have been watching the Olympics and bed time has been around 1:30 to 2:00 AM. Of course, i guess I could have just started it then [​IMG]

  12. I just foiled the butt a little while ago. Temp right now is around 175. Pretty sure we won't be having a late dinner. Smell coming from the smoker is so good!

  14. My butt was up to 196 and my pit temp was at 169, then it started raining real hard. Needless to say, I went out, grabbed my butt, and threw it in the oven. Finally got it up to 205 and in the cooler at 5pm for a 1 hour rest. Put my baked beans in at the same time so they will be ready when the butt is ready. Mixed up a batch of cole slaw courtesy of Daboys. My wife is wandering through the house reminding me of how hungry she is. I'm a little hungry too after smelling that meat all this time. 30 minutes to go.....[​IMG]
  15. Timed it just right. Butt was ready for the cooler at 5 and ready to pull at 6. My first pulled pork, and it was delicious. My wife agreed. It was so tender, my 6 mo old toothless son could have eaten it no problem.[​IMG]

    Here is the Qview...

    I have never eaten cole slaw on a sandwich before, but it was good. Wife liked the slaw too, but not on the sammich. Used SoFlaQuer's finishing sauce on some of the meat, really tasty compliment to the pork. Overall a big success. Just disappointed that it was only me and the Mrs. eating all that food. I tried to get some others to come over, but everyone was busy. That's ok, more leftovers for us![​IMG]

    LOL, I can skip the slaw on my pork sammies too. Can't figure out who or how that was invented. [​IMG]
    Looks good, you would have been find at 196º internal more than likely. Remember it will still cook and temps will rise in the foil as it rest. I pulled mine at that temp and it fell apart. Great first butt [​IMG]
