Lesson learned

  1. Well the day after my first smoke on my new WSM I went to clean it, guess what I forgot to do. I was so excited to use for the first time I forgot to foil the water pan like everybody says to do. So I'll be scrubbing that nasty greasy thing for a while. I guess we learn from our mistakes

I don't even foil mine anymore, just use some dawn & a brush on the inside, rinse with a garden hose, done. Takes a couple of minutes tops.  I don't bother to clean the bottom at all. It's got a nice coating baked on, I just leave it alone. The grates are another story, luckily my wife cleans them in the sink.

Reminds me of Al Bundy's search for ashes when he cleaned his grill.

You need to transfer some of that good smoke flavor to the next smoke!

You guys in Florida crack me up, when talking about using the garden hose in February!

Don't think it'll work too good in WV either.

I have taken to placing my grates on the gas grill on high and then I hit it with a wire brush, gets them really clean, and no mess in the kitchen.

You the Man AL. I'm with him and I don't foil my water pan I just wash it out before I use it again. I can use the water hose but I like to just use my sink in the outdoor kitchen.

I do that with my grill racks, but I can't see doing that with my MES grills.

I run my MES grills through both of my dishwashers----The one I bought in 2002, and the one I married in 1968.

They come out nice & shiny!

    Bear,

You must have gotten married at a very, very young age.

Are wives like puppies, you get them young enough and they'll love you forever no matter how you behave?

Sorry this isn't a hijack, just a sidetrack

Bear, I'm guessing your wife wasn't looking over your shoulder when you typed this! Or if she was I'm wondering how that lump on the side of your head feels?  [IMG]
