I joined SMF on December 9 after I picked up a new MSE 2007914, but I have been too busy to post until today.
I have cooked and smoked with an old Kamado for 40 years, but gave that to the kids last year and bought a new Vision Kamado from Costco. I just got a Masterbuilt Sportsman Elite 20071914 electric smoker from Cabela's for Christmas, which my wife won't let me open before Christmas. Next Week!! I picked it up just before Thanksgiving and it's killing me to see it sitting unopened in the garage! I'm looking forward to doing a lot of smoking without having to tend the charcoal all the time. I like to experiment with different woods, but I'm only beginning to try different rubs and brine. When I found this website I knew it would be a great way to learn more. Although this is my first post, I have spent quite a few hours browsing the forums since I discovered the site. There is clearly a wealth of knowledge available here!
I have been a fisherman since age 6, but for the past 25 years have been almost exclusively a fly fisherman. My Avatar shows an 11 lb. German Brown I caught fly fishing in July 2014. Since I retired I have started adding spin fishing and bait casting as well... going back to my roots:-) Anything to catch steelhead, salmon, and trout! I used to smoke trout in my Kamado many years ago and my friends and family ate them like candy. I'm looking forward to doing that again.
Our extended family looks forward to my Kamado smoked turkeys at Thanksgiving and Christmas and I did a prime rib for Christmas a couple years ago that they raved about.
Now that I've started to get used to retirement I'm looking forward to smoking a lot more fish, fowl, and meat!
