My wife has been trying to get me to help with the cooking for 40 years, but was not very successful. Now that I'm retired, I guess I'll step up!

"We" saw this Oklahoma Joe "Highland" smoker and decided it was time to get more involved.  I've grilled for a while, but this smoking stuff looks to be a bit more complicated and challenging.   I was raised in Texas, so I love to eat all kinds of BBQ (grilled/pit/smoked/etc).

So glad that I found MeatForums.com !  Haven't seen the whole website, but it really looks informative and helpful. Wow!  Some of y'all really modify these offset units to improve your cooking.  Think I'll stick to the basics at first, then try some of the modifications later on.

I guess it is time for me to work at becoming a family champ of backyard cooking!

I was in the same boat-been grilling forever but smoking seemed so complicated! Till I found this site and decided to dive right in. I've been at it for over a year now and with the advice found here have been making some good Q from the start! You're gonna love it! Happy smokin', David.

    Welcome to SMF! :welcome:
We're glad to have you. The search bar at the top is your most valuable resource here. This forum has been around for over ten years, so there is a good chance that any questions you may have, have already been answered (they may have 10 different answers, but you'll get an instant response non the less).
Please be sure to post your smokes along with your process and recipes. We will be glad to help you along the way and we may also learn something new ourselves in the process. Also, don't forget the very important Q view! (We're mad for pics on here 😁)
Always remember to have fun because it's not fun if you have to work at it.
    Thanks for joining,
    - Ryan
