I've been posting for a while, I thought it time to update my profile and make a short introduction. My name is Bruce and I live in north-central Oklahoma. I am a third generation operator of construction equipment. My father purchased the company my brother and I now co-own back in 1963. Dad passed away a little over ten years ago. He is the one that first got me interested in grilling and smoking.
Dad built a smoker out of an old propane tank around thirty years ago. It was probably a 500 gallon tank. After he passed away, my brother took possession of the smoker and began to compete in a few KCBS contests in the area. He competes as the "BASS 'AKARD BBQ" team and has adorned the old smoker with fish silhouettes on it. This past summer, he built a new, larger smoker which works very well. It is sixteen feet long, trailer mounted, and has two smoking chambers sandwiching the fire box.
I've always played around with grilling and smoking. I still don't take it as seriously as my brother. A friend (Stonebriar) suggested I get on SMF and check it out. I have enjoyed reading threads and gleaning new ideas. My plan is to build a new combo grill/smoker for the back yard. I am seeing many great ideas for the project--and for new dishes to try.
I hope to learn more from the forum and can hopefully contribute something from time to time to earn my keep. Hope to visit with many around the pit!
