Just picked up 5 a couple weeks ago at GFS... $1.49lb ... Got all my seasonings and casings from Owensbbq.com... Now I need time from work (that nasty four letter word)...

They stoped selling twin packs here a few years ago... I liked them better than the single packs (usually swift) ...

Grabbed a Butt (pun intended :emoji_grimacing: ) at Sam's today for $1.98/lbs. Probably gonna debone it and cut it into pork steaks. not sure yet but I grabbed that butt while it was on sale :emoji_laughing:

It’s a point to clarify. Bone in or boneless. All of the, I get are boneless for around $3

Last couple I did went to sausage , steaks and some bacon .
Got 2 nice boneless before I hit the bone . Did 2 bone in with a clean hacksaw . ( no more of that )
Some chunks for sausage . Rolled some of the fat cap around some chunks and tied it into a roast .

Saved a 1 lb strip of the fat cap . Cured and smoked it for bacon .

For me it's better use than just doing pulled pork .

I was trying to avoid the restaurant mass purchase stores as Gordon Food Service (GFS), Costco Business Center (CBC), etc.
CBC has butt and cushion for $1.69/#. I'm on the count down to migrating north so no big purchases. Got my last tri tip to grind for last round of summer sausage.

That's some creativity with the butt

KJs (local grocery chain) has pork shoulders for $1.49/lb this week. I'll probably pick up a couple after work tomorrow

That is excellent. Thanks for the suggestion. Plan on parting it out later today or tomorrow.

If I had to pay retail for beef, I wouldn't be eating much of it. It's getting to the point where I'm considering raising a couple hogs as well, the way pork prices are trending. Pork has, in the past, been cheap enough not to bother but that seems to be changing.
You ain't just kidding. I almost never buy beef anymore. Once every couple of months a brisket. But I honestly don't remember the last time I bought beef personally except for a brisket. Wife buys ground and stew beef once in a while.

I guess I bought a couple chuck roasts to do Mississippi pot roast a few months back - maybe January, I think?

As for pork, at the local WalMart, it's been $1.74/lb for bone-in pork butt for a while, maybe 6 months or so. Boneless has been $2.49/lb or so, but last time I went in, I think it was up to $2.89 or $3.29/lb. This is all Prairie Fresh brand, which is pretty good. That was crazy high. No way. Costco usually runs boneless pork butt 2-packs for $2.49/lb or so. Swift brand, I think.

Haven't gotten any lately, as my freezers are full as full gets. I need to go through and throw some stuff away that's been stuck in the bottom/backs of the freezers for a few years. lol
