Here is the newest smoker a buddy and I have built. Sadly I didn't get as many pictures as I should have. I am unloading it tomorrow, so I will take some more. It is made from an old Ingersoll Rand compressor tank I salvaged back when I was a millwright. The diameter is 24" and it is a 120gal tank.
First up is the firebox. I probably made it too large at 24x28x26, but oh well. Everything is 3/16 thick on this thing. Pretty much a larger version of the Weber firebox I made. I actually made the Weber one because I had room left on the sheet I bought to make this one.
I cut out the door a decade ago from the tank and this thing just sat around for way too long. But here it is finally mounted to a quick frame I made. Progress felt good on this after it sat around for so long.
Today we finished it up, but I didn't grab any finished photos yet. This is it mostly complete. It is very handy having access to the shop I work at for personal projects. Having a crane made loading this way easier. Now unloading at home will be a different story...
I didn't go with the traditional grate level stack on this one. It was mostly because I was curious to see what it does differently firsthand. If I don't like it I plan to cut and cap it then fab one for grate level. I also need to get better casters as the cheap harbor freight ones keep losing air as it sits. I may also just fill them with foam and see what happens?
I am looking forward to getting in some cooks on this one. New cookers are always fun.
