I'm in the market for a Medical Alert Syatem for my wife (HELPPPP... I've fallen and can't get up) LOL... Anybody have any knowledge with any of the sytems offered ??

Looking for pros and cons...

Before she passed, my MIL had Life Alert and it worked good. The only thing is them getting used to having it with them.

She had a dementia type disease and would sometimes forget to put it on if Nicole wasn’t there. Which was rare, but Nic couldn’t be there 24/7.

We ended up putting up some cameras to keep an additional eye on her. The kitchen, bedroom and living room. Some footage was hard to see… but she wanted to be home… the cameras would alert us and we’d be on our way to help her.

I'll have to ask my wife if she remembers what we got for mom years ago as I don't remember. But it was not life alert... for the main reason it wouldn't alert anyone of a fall in case mom fell and got knocked unconscious and wasn't able to push the button. The one we went with had fall detection... she didn't have to push the button.

My mom and mother in law both had one and never had to use it. I can’t remember which company it was.
They do work and kinda a comical story here! When my mother in law received hers her kids were on the contact list to be called if the unit was ever activated.
After she passed the company said to send the unit back to them in the mail then when they received it they would deactivate the unit.
A few days later brother in law was notified that rescue was on the way to a post office in Tennessee ( we live in Iowa) he told them the unit was sent USPS and in a cardboard box per their instructions 😂

The one from ADT we had for my dad had that.
Depending on a lot…Apple Watch will call 911 after a fall. My mom’s has gone off a couple times. Not 100% sure what it does. But I think it asks if you want to call 911 and no response = call. Don’t quote as my mom always said not to call 911

Only knowledge I have is I was unaware my Galaxy watch has fall a detection feature that is active by default. I fell several times while wearing the watch and ........ nothing.

A while back, I'm sitting at my desk with my feet kicked up, doing something on my computer and my watch goes ballistic. "Fall detected", do you want to contact 911? Hell, the only thing moving on my body at the time was my hand working the mouse. I didn't know it was turned on until then, and turned it off then and there.

It's been 10 years now, but I had a BIG problem with Medical Alert and their corporate parent, Connect America. My parents had had a Medical Alert system for several years, though they never had a reason to use it. Eventually they decided to move into an assisted living facility. I was living across the country at the time, but they had local nieces and nephews who helped with the move. Their house was to sit empty for several months, until I could get out there to help clean it out and get it listed for sale.

When I arrived, I found the Medical Alert system, unplugged, backup battery drained, and of course the phone line it had been connected to had been disconnected since my parents had moved months earlier.

Medical Alert CLAIMS to continuously monitor their hardware, and in case they detect any problem with the system they call local authorities to do a wellness check on the home occupants. Months went by, and that never happened. The system had been stone dead for months, and Medical Alert either couldn't tell, or didn't care. I shudder to think what would have happened had my parents actually had to rely on the system.

Adding insult to injury, when I packed up the hardware and shipped it back, delivery signature required, I was subsequently billed hundreds of dollars for the hardware I 'hadn't returned'. I provided a copy of the signature card proving the package was delivered, they told me the package was signed for, but I couldn't prove there was anything in it. They wouldn't claim there was nothing in the box, only that I couldn't prove that there was. That lead to a multi-month fight, in which the credit card company ultimately backed me, but it left a very bad taste in my mouth.

I've dabbled in that rathole a bit and will dive headfirst last quarter this year. I can seem daunting at times.

I take it she's on standard Medicare vs an Advantage plan? If so do you also carry a Medigao plan? I was surprised to see that standard Medicare does not pay for annual physical. Also didn't realize until recently that Medicare has no annual out of pocket maximum

Can't remember the brand but things to consider, no subscription, would call multiple phone numbers, we had 7 total with the final being 911. 2 way communication capable with a base and a waterproof pendant. Came in very handy for us, worked with a land line and was reliable. Good luck, it's a bad spot.

She has an Advantage plan. I am jealous of her coverage. It seems pretty amazing! WAY better than what I have.

An Apple Watch has fall detection built in. If you fall & don’t respond to the watches warning it will dial 911, and or an emergency contact. I had to turn mine off because when working in the yard it would trigger the alarm.

No matter which device you go with. It'll only be as good the service behind it. I know this first hand.

I bought my wife a Samsung watch since we have Samsung phones. The watch has fall detection and I test it every month. When a fall is detected, it starts a timer on the watch and if the user doesn't press the button, it calls me. If I don't answer, it calls 911.

As do Samsung watches. Mine never detected an actual fall (had 2 or 3) but set off a "fall detected warning" when I was sitting in a chair at my PC.

I didn't even know it was turned on until then. I turned it off.
