I had and bred some of those in my tanks years ago...they are cool
That's pretty wild. Breeding blue crawlers would be cool, but I would want to eat them.....LOL
What a cool post and what a great meal - one of my faves at our house for sure.
Thanks eddie! It was a great feast for the family!

In all the crawfish I have seen in person in my lifetime-I have only ever seen two blue crawfish....it is a recessive trait down here, but it does occur.

So I had Friday planned as a honey do list day and Mrs C says why don’t we break out the boat……so out it came…..

So after a made scramble to get the the gear cleaned up and installed new batteries (10 years on the old ones….not more trust) got up to the lake after lunch and set 10 pots along the honey hole……they went in at 3 so this will be a short soak…..also trying 2 different tilapia as bait…..

Bing 3 hours later scored 17 nice crawlers! The water is still cold and interesting enough didn’t get any in the pots above 30ft depth….all the catches were around 38-40 feet!

Bingo all cleaned up….these were a little muddier than usual so once the crab boil was hot did a quick rinse…..bingo all cleaned

Cooked till the body was 145 then chilled them…..then in the fridge as it was midnight…..

Claws holy CLAWS!!!!

Bing to spread…..crawlers, split lobster, shrimp, snow crab, onion, Yukons, andouille, boil eggs, corn, and lemon slices! All this was dressed with a garlic butter sauce!

Oh and the money shot with chopped parsley…….holy crap this was a feast!!!!

Pot stock, water, old bay, Cajun seasoning , onion a whole lemon in slices, white wine vinegar, chicken base, hot sauce…..started with spuds and sausage slices, when the spuds were almost done…..in go the corn, after a few min, pre-boiled eggs, then the crab, followed by the crawlers, lobster, and then shrimp….the trick is not to over cook the shrimp…..

The garlic butter sauce….
2-sticks of butter,
5ish or more crushed garlic cloves use 10 if you want to sleep on the couch…..
Old bay
Cajun seasoning
Hot sauce
Worcestershire
White wine vinegar
Smoked paprika
Chicken base
1/4c boil liquid….
All this is blended in just as the boil is really to pull…..you don’t want the water to fully boil out in the butter….it keeps the blend creamy like…..
Lordy... that dinner would be 1/2 a paycheck down here.. IF I could find it here.

Yes a boil like this in our parts would be $$$$…..oh wait not place to get one….except at home!
CS, Huge crawdads and an awesome looking spread of food !
Thanks CM! I’m not sure it it’s just depth we fish or just the biological conditions but it seems they the huge genes for sure!

Dang!!! That looks great!!

Well done,

- Jason

That looks really, really good Courtney!! We have crawfish in our lakes and rivers primarily Louisiana Red Swamp Crawfish and the Louisiana White River Crawfish, but nobody attempts to harvest them. I've cleaned freshwater stripers and they'd be full of them. Thought many times about setting some traps, but like so many things, time gets in the way...

Awesome thread and meal civil, I know that boil was very tasty. Those Signals are good sized and I know they were a mighty fine meal!

Mrs C had a great idea! Congrats on a well deserved spinner ride!

Thanks GS! We do it as it’s some what passive fishing…..spent and hour or so getting them set then it’s a nice day tossing a worm and reading a few chapters sipping an ice nectar (sans buzz juice)
