Living in New York City can be a great experience, but many times it's hard to find those things needed. Case in point. I scoured the city looking for Morton’s Sugar cure. Ended up buying online. Then I needed wood. At the Home Depot I could get Hickory or Applewood, but nothing else. And they rarely had the big bags.
I located a thread here mentioning a wood source from Brooklyn. It's called . So I called up and left a message. When he called me back I asked about the other woods needed, Pecan, Oak, Cherry, etc and learned he has it all. From the standards (hickory, mesquite, applewood, oak, pecan, cherry) as well interesting woods as Cabernet Wood chips (chips made from Cabernet wine casks) and other fruit woods as apricot and lemon. I think I'm even forgetting a few. Well since I didn’t know how much to buy, he suggested I visit one of his customers in Brooklyn, called Eagle Provisions. I went there and scored! I cleaned the guy out. (Even picked up 3 types homemade smoked kielbasa!). I figure once I'm through this supply, I'll probably order larger sizes directly from The Woodman. So I wanted to give him props here that it was a pleasant experience, he is passionate about his company and will go to lengths to accommodate you.
I'll be using the pecan and oak for some ribs and a 2nd run at Tasso this weekend.
Stay tuned for QView!
