I have this guy wanting to make a smoker for me. he says it very much like the lang 48 original reverse smoke system for wood only he has made one already and brought it by for me to see it looks pretty good. the new made one is 20" by41/2 feet the price is about 800.00 question is... is a wood reverse smoker a good smoker to start with I'm new to the gig but I do have my own restaurant so cooking is one of my fav's any help would be great thanks keith.
 
Welcome to SMF the reverse flows are very good smokers. If he brought it by maybe he'll let you fire it up and check it out. What kind of tank and what thickness steel is he using?

he said I could borrow it anytime as for the thickness 1/4" plate is what he's using the tank is a propane tank. oh and thanks for the welcome

I have a Lang and really like it in fact everybody that I know that has a Lang likes them.
 
and a lang is a very forgiving cooker, you can add water/apple juice or whatever to the tray for a water bath effect at least until you get the hang of it and don't need it.
 
First off welcome Keith to SMF. It sounds like you are well on your way to be an outstanding new member of this fine site. You'll like it here cause there are abunch of good folks here that would just love to help you out with just about anything to do with smoking. We really like to have newbies here because they can bring in a new propective to how things are done. There's nothing like a new set of eyes to give and new way to make things that little differant to make things alittle better. So I hope you know about the Qview here.

It's also free and it will give you the basics of smoking. So after all of that you just need to go grab something to smoke and if you have any question just post them here and we will answer it quickly so you don't have any mishaps with your smoke.

well the smoker is finally here and we fired it up yesterday we smoked some beans and they turned out totally awesome today we'll try our hand at chicken. I post pic's tonight of the smoker and the out come of the smokin! (hale yeah)

Beans,bacon,chipotle,garlic,pepper oh and brown sugar smoked for about 3 hours at 300.

I'm telling you I'm liking this smoker thingy can't wait for more good eats.

well the chicken turn awesome but really who can mess up chicken made a great rub and smoked at about 280 for 3 hours very juicy and spicy too.
