Morning all,

I'm semi-new to the art of smoking. I started out with an El-cheapo Brinkman and modified it taking Jeff's suggestions and it worked alright but it was just to small to do anything large. So I decided to build my own. Lucky for me my step-dad retired from a steel company and was able to get me all my material for the cost of 6 subway sandwiches and 5 domino's pizzas for the the guys in the shop. I had a buddy let me borrow his fab shop and I got started. I had an idea of what i wanted but no real plans to work from. Below is what I came up with. It measures 70 x 48 x 24. It works alright. The draft isn't bad. It can be difficult to regulate the temp sometimes. I feel that I made the firebox too big. I had placed the thermometer to high and it was giving me a false temp by about 150 degrees. Seeing that, I'd stoke the fire and char the life right out of my product. I since have gone to a digital thermometer with dual probes. One for the smoke box and the other for meat. I would like to build another, possible something towable and or a smokehouse of some type.  Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Phil
