I've combined pecan and apple for light smokes and cheeses.
Also jack daniels chips with a bit of hickory, jack daniels with pecan, jack with apple....I like all of these combinations.
I've used oak and cherry, oak and maple, oak and apple. All are nice combinations. That's one of the great things about this craft, you have lots of choices and most experiments taste good.
I like to mix apple and hickory at times and call it it happy wood. I see patty uses apple and jack chips nothin like a good apple jack. I have not tried the jack chips yet but they sound and bet smell wonderfull.
I'm going to try an apple chip / cherry chunk mix on some ribs and a chuck roast tomorrow. May throw a bit of hickory in there too just for a lil' bite.
I'll try my best meowey, been lookin at the spritze's and rubs and i think i like the apple juice and capt morgan rum mix that sounds awesome jeffs rub is very close to what i already use so it should be a blast. no pun intended.
Haven't smoked enough to get a handle on the different wood tastes , probably 'cause I'm still playing with different rubs and sprays (spritzes) and really new at this.
I did one bag of hickory chunks but that was in my bad rub phase
so I couldn't tell what the smoke flavor was. I've got a little apple still seasoning that I use and some pin cherry that is about seasoned . I like the subtle flavor from the apple and the cherry works good with it. Also like the deeper red from the cherry on the meat . looks great and tastes good to me
Gotta get a lot more smokes under my belt before I can really start to understand the differences.
