Webowabo, the problem is that I am not a welder or fabricator by any stretch of the imagination, but I have friends who are.  Had a buddy come over to the house the other day and drooled all over one of my shotguns.  Said he really wanted and wanted to go get the cash right then.  Problem was, it wasn’t for sale.  But he has outstanding welding and fabricating skills.  So for the price of a shotgun (a Mossberg) not worth a whole lot of $$$.  But it looks mean.  So he is going to help me fix my beast up and he gets his shotgun.  It’s a win/win situation.  And I will be posting pics along the way for everyone to see the progress.

I will be going hands on tomorrow. I will be doing some much needed grinding that should have been done when the smoker was built.

Holy Freekin Shysters............ That thing is huge. I would hate to see how much fuel it will take to keep her at temp. Your going to need a plate inside to retain heat... Good luck with the build

It has a plate inside. I was going to had a burner to it but then it wouldn't be bbq association compliant.

these are 3 pictures of the work I have done today on the beast.  the first and third pic are of spots where the guy who built it did not clean up where he welded, very sloppy.  the second one was where a pipe that was welded to tank and left.  I used a cutting disc and cut it off and then smoothed it out with a grinder.  I also used my grinder to knock off all the rough edges.  Let me tell you something,  It was a long hot day but in the end it will all be worth it.  I know this sounds crazy, but when I get her done, I am going to buy a whole hog and slaughter it and split it in two and give the beast a test run.  And trust me, there will be pictures.

Well, there you have it!  I lied to yall.  I said I would have more pics today and I didnt.  Wife had me a nice long "honey do list" and I didnt have a chance to take pics or even work on the beast today.  I will make it up though.

Sorry, no, this thread is not dead....just been busy with work.  I have come along way with the beast.  Here is a couple pics or us painting it with a semi-gloss high temp paint.  the one pic is of what it looked like before we began painting.  we also have the smoke stack remounted on the opposite end of the fire box and dropped down so that the smoker would build up heat at well as smoke.  any feed back and comments are welcome.

Looking good so far, keep up with the pictures.

Its hard to get any of the Propane or other gas companies to come off their old tanks here on the Space Coast. They claim their "policy is to recycle them for the money" regardless of the fact that they could get as much if not more just outright selling them to people like us.
