My MES smoker will not heat called the support line and they sent me a new digital control unit that arrived yesterday, installed this and did not fix the problem. Called them to find that all support is off till Monday for Easter. Any Ideas on what can be done to get this smoker going? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Morning, Did you set the timer first? If the timer reads oo.oo  the element will not turn on.

I have done this myself on occasion. Hope that is your problem.

Sorry, I left out the entire unit does not power up. Masterbuilt said this is usually the digital contol head, but as I have been researching this I have found that the biggest problem is the power wire not heavy enough. So I am going to drill out the rivits and take a peek. Thanks for the response and pray to the Smokin Gods that I can figuare this out to so we can have some bacon wrapped chicken breasts for Easter. And you and yours have a Great Easter.

Are you using an extension cord ? If so, plug it into an outlet directly. Make sure the outlet is hot. Where are you located? If it is cold where you are, you might need to use a hair drier or electric portable heater to heat the inside of your smoker. Some units won't start when it is cold.

More info would be helpful. The "combined knowledge" here knows EVERYTHING  about getting them to work.

This a good post to emphasize that we need to know a general location of where you reside.

If we knew that we may could eliminate weather as a cause.

If this unit is one of the newer models, you plug the unit into a good outlet and it doesn't power up and you have changed the head, Then it may have an acess panel on the back to acess the element connections. If it does pull the panel .if not drill out all the rivets and acess the element connections . There will probably be one or maybe both that have buned. While you have the back off replace the 2 wires leading to the element w/ high temp 12 guage wire and stainless connectors.

There are some good tutorials on the site showing how to do the repair.

Your good advise is well noted, Smoker is pluged in direct to a good outlet. Location is Indiana temps have been in the 50s - 60s, I did have the ambeint temp issue during the winter. I got past that issue with just setting a pan of hot tap water in the unit for 2 min. to trick the sensor. Took off the access panel and found no burnt wires at the connections. Next step is to drill out rivits and inspect the rest of it.

I know this post is about a year old, but this helped me out this morning. I went to get the smoker ready for some port and chicken and I could not get the unit to heat. I called MB but they are closed for Easter, so I called my dad and he was about ready to help me box it up and take it back to Sam's.

I am so glad I read this forum. I set the timer and it is heating up quickly.
