Gotta hold of a freebie drum. Had coconut oil in it. burn or no ?
Burn it fo' sure!
Most likely it is a lined barrel. Even though it contained a food product they would have wanted to protect the product from the barrel materials.
Yup - Burn it hot.
How do ya tell if its lined ?
The inside will be any color other than metal / rust. Both of mine were a tan color.
another thing I never found on my searches, ... should you drill your intakes before the burn ?
I did ... it gives the fire oxygen to burn better. With out air for the burn out the fire most likely will go out when the bottom of the barrel runs out of oxygen.
This one looks bare metal with a tiny bit of surface rust in one area. Could burn anyway. Not a big problem..just in case .
If that is the case I would wire brush it out good. Finish up all the necessary holes and hardware and season it.
Thank you P.C. ! I'm sure I will have more questions this weekend when I put this thing together. Can always count on the great folks here
I would. And if you really want a good fire, put a leaf blower (or a shop vac set to blow) up against the intake when your fire is going. But it might be best to do it at night....when it glows orange, shut it down.
Then you are a lucky man, drill holes, assemble and season!!
btw bubba..........the weber grates are 21.5 inches.........PERFECT! ! !

hoping to do the burn out this weekend........but i also have to get tents aired out, and camping stuff together for the gathering.......so will see
