me and the wife have been wanting to get just a cheap charcoal grille for when we do not want to use the propane or smoker

so i see her on my lunch break today at the house and she says

"im going to target and im not paying more than $50 for a charcoal grille"

my first thought is great, im going to spend an hour putting this thing together and the legs are going to fall off in a week....i was wrong or atleast i hope so

i get a pic text to me a little bit ago with the pic of the grille below

http://www.chargriller.com/store/pro...5023d1942a7813

when i asked how much she said $32......now looking at that link from the factory site it should of been $90. the price was mislabled (i feel really bad for the sales clerk that tried telling her that)

going to go home and fire this thing up tonight and kinda excited to see how the little thing cooks, it looks pretty cool and i can easily shove this thing outta the way....exactly what we were looking for

she's a shopper and she will drop someone in a heartbeat if they try switching prices on her, so i definitely give her credit

i think ill through a pork tenderloin on there tonight since she's really been wanting one

the main reason for the purchase was just for a straight charcoal grille (never being used for smoking). she goes back and forth on liking smoked items (its the taste but i think apple solved that) so this is nice to have something to use when she's just not in the mood for the tainted brinkman gourmet lol

thanks for the heads up caveman....ill make sure to keepem lubed

Congrats on the new grill and it sounds like you have quite the thrifty shopper on your hands. Now that could be good and bad in some places.

Grats on a good score! Always nice when you get those....

Buddy of mine went to Lowes and bought the $150 chepo-gas grill, then had to wait for 45 min. for somebody to get one out of stock and load it into his rig. Didn't notice till he got home that the guy had grabbed the $299 model one and loaded it in by mistake! I asked my buddy if he was going to take it back.... his response, "Hell NO!".... lol.

Phillet, the link above is directly to the manual of the model of "Char Griller" that I own. Under "Grill Preparations & Operating Instructions", line #8, I interpret that as the information that I advised you within this thread. Now, if you are going to use your grill as a grill and not a SFB to a grill, then I would think that these instructions would apply to you as well. Whenever a member requests assistance here, I search the forums first, then the internet if I don't have personal knowledge of what that member is requesting. If I don't know the subject, I don't respond. I was sent a "PM" stating that the information I gave you was an "Idiot Opinion" as opposed to sound advice. I am not here to mis-guide any members, start flame wars or not learn my hobby better. Now, I was "Informed" that you do not have to season your grills after each use. Whether that is true or not, I don't know. My advice came from the manual & my personal use of the "EXACT" same type of grill you've purchased. Or shall I say, "Your great deal catching Wife" found at Target. The reason I am posting this is to say, you may want to do some research of your own to understand better about "Cast Iron Seasoning" so as not to ruin your grill. I apologize if there is any confusion & I plan on doing thorough research before responding to anymore posts here. Good luck with your purchase, enjoy your purchase & may it bring you long lasting, great cooks.

Simply unbelievable that someone would jump on you like that. Sad.
I too own a Chargriller with the SFB and that is what the manual says. I find that if grilling you need to season pretty much every time. For smoking the season stays much longer as the temp does not get as high.

Phillet, Nice score!!

If for some reason the cast iron grates get to ruined call your local fireplace & BBQ store. A lot of times you can buy enamel coated cast iron grates from them for relatively cheap. I had to replace my grates years ago and the guy had a set that was 1/2" to big - he cut them down the repainted the cut ends and it fit perfectly.

I think the manual makes that suggestion due to excessive use of the grill itself. I thought I remembered my mother using her cast iron skillet, washing it, drying it thoroughly then lightly coating it with oil for the next use. Seasoning is a different animal & I think it was mis-interpreted as to the understanding & my explanation of the term. But as you stated, that is what the manual states & that is what I told him. I agree about the smoking portion of your post for that model, as the temps are lower. I didn't re-oil / re-season each time. I hope things work out for him.

i seasoned it last night and from now on im just going to wipe it clean and just rub some oil on it once it cools

sorry someone jumped on your back caveman, and i appreciate the advice so dont let it make you hesitate from helping others!

Another cheater method is just keep a can of Pam handy. Give the grates a quick spray after cleaning.

Well, people can say what they want, and that is fine. I think a lot depends on how the unit is used and stored. My personal experience is that they need to be kept oiled up or they will rust. I like lard and others like other things. Good cooking on your new unit!
