Sugar Maple Smokehouse

  1. Hi Guys, I'm new to SMF.  I built this smoke house a few years back and have literally done hundreds of pounds of meat with it.  Just thought I'd share some pics.

  2. Beautiful smokehouse, very nice.  What's your heat source?

Great looking smokehouse.... nice venting.... I'm glad you didn't worry about the wall boards fitting tight.... all that "little air leakage" make for great smoked food.... Thumbs Up

Now we need pics of grub...

  4. Thanks guys.  I run it off a 20 lb propane tank that sits in the back Wayne.

Here's some chickens I did this past week Dave.

That's a great looking smoke shack! I like your door latches, nice and simple! Those birds look great too! What fuel source do you use for hot smokes?

  6. I have propane Dirt.  Works really well for me.  My chips sit on a turkey fryer inside the smokehouse itself.  I am fortunate to have family with a fruit orchard and some other hardwoods.  I have a pretty good supply of apple, cherry, pear, maple and hickory chips.

Thanks for the info. I have plans to build a smoke shack primarily for sausage and jerky. So always researching the burner options.

Oh man, that's great! I'm sure they love getting smoke goods in trade!

  8. I do a ton of jerky too.  Lots and lots of duck and goose jerky. Waterfowl hunting is my other sickness, so I make a lot of jerky from what I get hunting.  My jerky racks are simple.  Just strips of Sugar Maple with evenly spaced finish nail that are bent to a 45 degree angle and set inside the smoker.  Here's a pic:
