Up until this past April I didn't know there was a difference between grilling and bbq'ing. I owned a propane grill for years and thought I was bbq'ing on it. My turning point came in the form of a huge windstorm this past winter. It killed my grill... since it cost more to repair than to to get a new one, I decided to learn more about the options. My eyes were opened to the difference between grilling and bbqing.

For father's day I was able to get a real treat - a traeger. I love it! I know I was supposed to start of with some basics but there was a sale on brisket and I had to give it a try. Now it wasn't perfect but it really tasted great!

Here is a shot of that 1st brisket...

and here's one of the fall-off-the-bone St. Louis style pork ribs from a couple weeks ago...

I am so used to burning the skin on just about everything. This is taking me a little to get used to letting it cook... but I think I am getting the hang of it. I won't switch back to propane. I have a lot to learn and love getting to eat all that practice smoking!

them are some purdy smoke rings you got on that brisket. I, like you, thought the same thing until I actually started learning about cooking and bbq. I thought the difference between grilling and bbqing was regional like, say, pop and soda.

Hay there NW Bubba......I'm there with you on the grilling with propane. I have a Charbroil Silver offset smoker. I've been using lump coal and wood chuncks since I got my smoker. I got mine in February for my birthday. I haven't used my Webber Silver B since. I used to try everything to get good smokey flavor with my webber. Everything came out ok be never falling off the bone tender like I get now with my smoker. I've been looking at the taegers for some time now. The are very well built. I'd love to have one. What part of Washington are you from. I'm over here in Poulsbo. Anyway, welcome aboard.

That looks great. I just returned from a week in the Great Northwest, from the Ocean, to Portland, to The Dalles. Never saw a BBQ sign. I did see one ad that also had vegan food and tofu. Welcome to the board.
