Hello to all of the Members of SMF,

I am a new member and I live in Lowell, Michigan, with my wife and three children. I Harvest Green Snap Beans for a living. I like to Hunt, Fish, Backpacking, hiking, Camping and my boys are big in Scouting, Which I am one of the adult leaders of the troop we belong to. I have a friend from our Troop that has brought his smoker to a few of our Scout Campouts and this is what has made me to decide to join the fun of Smoking Meat. I have not purchased a Smoker yet becasue I need some veterans advise on Chacoal versa's a Gas Smoker. Can you get the same great flavor out of a gas versa's charcaol? I had some Deer Jerkey from a friend of mine last week and it was smoked from a Brinkmann Charcoal Smoker and it was the best I have ever had. I wold like to hear from other members of the forum to help make my decision. I have a Charcaol Smoker in mine to purchase and a Propane Gas Smoker in mine to purchase.

Welcome to the site! you have come to the right place for information, great people here with lots of knowledge. I have both and can't tell a bunch of difference in wood and gas, but I would say the wood is a little better but with that said the gas is sure easier to use. There will be more along with opinions soon.

George welcome to SMF glad you decided to join us. You'll find lots of good info here and some great recipes. People turn out great stuff from all types of smokers and each has advantages and disadvantages so it kinda comes down to a matter of personal preference. Have fun and happy smoking

Happy Thanksgiving and welcome to the SMF, George. I use several different sizes for charcoal baskets. The largest, 14" diameter by 7" high will keep 225° for over 14 hours. The smallest one hold about 6 lbs. of charcoal and runs at 225° for 6+ hours. Hope this helps.
