Hello! My name is Mike. I am from Central Illinois, just South of Decatur. I'm not new to smoking, I have been using an ECB for years. About 5 years ago I read about modding it and did do some mods which helped it immensely. I have cranked out some good meat with it but it is about wore out, who knows how many hundreds of pounds I have cooked in that thing. Since I needed a new smoker I decided to step up my smoking game a notch.
I have purchased a new smoker. I was going to get the Weber Smokey Mountain but I found the Oklahoma Joe Highland on sale at wally world for $138.00 so I snatched it up because I like the ease of access and the size of the cooking area. I have ordered gaskets for the cooking chamber and fire box, food safe rtv, door clamps, tuning plate, expanded metal firebox, Maverick ET-733, couple of more cooking chamber thermometers, and a cover. Like I said I am stepping it up a level. I smoke all year round, I have a pic of me cooking a pork roast on my grill and there is a foot of snow on the ground and still falling lol. Using the smoker all year round I struggled with the ECB during the winter. Most likely before winter hits I will be looking into a welders blanket for the new smoker.
Anyway I am glad to join the forum. I am interested in networking with any members who may be in my area as well. Thanks for looking and I am looking forward to talking smoke with yall.
