This is absolutely insane. I'm at a loss on how to get the temps figured out. I want the temp to be 225. So I set it to 225. Seems like it should be simple enough. But nope. It goes up to 315+ degrees set at 225. So I turn the grill down 25 degrees to 200* and that drops the temp of the grill down to 195*. From there on I try small changes in the set temp, which result in either zero change or wild amounts of changes. I'm completely frustrated and would love any help I can get.

It's either one extreme or the other.

I want to be able to set the temp at 225* and it actually stay around 225*. How do I make that happen?

I've got the DB, and the temps have never been close to set temp. I use a igrill2 to monitor my grate temps. They will swing by 25-30*. Mine doesn't clime to 300*+ on startup though.
How long did you wait after it climbed to 300* to adjust it? Did it gradually come down to 225* or stay at 300+* for 10 min or more?

What firmware are you running? Id give GMG a call. There CS is outstanding. Most likely they'll send you a new controller.

On the traeger I had you had to start with the door open then close the door and let it warm up. Normally within 15-20 minutes it would settle back down to be fairly close to what it was set at. You might try it. All the pellet grills kinda have a mind of their own.

Mowin, yeah I tried to let it equalize for a OT 10 minutes +/- was still all over the place. The initial board in it was outdated so they sent me a new one with the most recent version. Yeah, their CS is pretty good. Now that I'm not as frustrated I'm gonna call them at some point and try to get it sorted out. (Hopefully lol)

Okiefisher.....I'm gonna give that a try. Thanks.

Take a look at my recent post in the pellet smoker area about PID vs Non PID and it will give you a pretty good idea of how your smoker works.

Stop chasing temps. Go to this link and try the temperature test, takes about two hours. You may be surprised to see that the temps between the controller and probes will average out to the temperature you want. Yes I know it's for a Yoder but others have used this test and gotten good results. Until I did this test I was chasing temps all over the place. If your tips are really of then there may be a problem with the pid.
