I am currently looking for a charcoal fired grill. Won't be using it for much other than grilling. Smoking will be done in my dedicated smoker. Don't want pellets, I want charcoal fired. Would like to be able to cook enough for 5-6 people at a time. Keeping cost under $400, what would be a good, durable grill.

Can't beat a Weber. Either the 18" or the 22" would be perfect. For both you can get all kinds of great accessories like rotisserie, charcoal boxes, etc.

I went through 3 grills in 5 years and they ranged from a Weber to a 3 burner stainless steel Infrared grill. Long story short, I got tired a buying grills every other year.

I am proud to say that I bought a Big Green Egg about 3 years ago and it has lasted!! The only maintenance I have had to do is replace the seal once....(it is about time to do it again). Be careful though, you might like it so much that you will eventually smoke everything in it too.

I can expand much further if you would like but the only time I use my Weber now is when I go on vacation. With the $600 price difference that may help you make the decision.

Any Weber charcoal grill is going to last for decades. Took me more than 30 years, but I finally wore out my 18.5". I keep it around for the memories. Might turn it into something some day.

My 22.5" early model Weber Performer is also about 20 years old, give or take one or two years. The table that is attached gets used as much as the grill. I keep it next to my WSM and use that table continuously.

You can pick up barely used 18.5" and 22.5" Weber Kettles all day long on Craigslist for peanuts. The 26" Kettles are a rare find on CL.

You will look long and hard to find a charcoal grill that will top a Weber Performer and it's at your price point, even the Deluxe with gas start.

Here’s my CL find Performer with added rotisserie ring and Ribolator. The Weber will last and preform well for you.
