I'm a first-time poster but long time follower of this forum.  I'm an Attorney/Soldier with the U.S. Army currently stationed in Virginia.  I love eating bbq but once I got to Virginia (after living in Kansas City and North Carolina) I figured it was time to start doing instead of just eating.  My tools of the trade, so far, are a Masterbuilt Electric Smoker (MES) 30, a Weber Spirit E-310, Jeff's recipes, all types of thermometers, a few quality knives and sharping stones, my phone and tablet (to search this forum and youtube, buy spices in bulk, and search for quality meat currently on sale), and an extremely patient and loving wife.  I've been using the smoker for the past two months and have put chicken, butts, ribs, and a brisket through it, so far, but I'm itching to try something new every weekend.  It is 0600 on a Saturday morning, it has been raining for four days straight and there is no reason for me to be up this early except to fire up the smoker, inject some meat and look for the thin blue smoke of awesomeness!  Looking forward to sharing some photos and experiences with some of the true experts of bbq artistry found on this forum!

Welcome to SMF thanks for your service, wait for the rain to stop before plugging that smoker in.

5 hours in the smoke and the internal is about 150 so time to put it in the foil and tenderize it up.  Tropics, my wife let me move the smoker into our large screened porch.  It is sitting in the middle of the porch and the smoke is flowing over the yard.  It is a beautiful sight with the rain as a backdrop!

Looks great! Score that and pour a jar of pepper jelly over the top while hot.

Good afternoon and welcome to the forum, from a nice warm day in East Texas, and the best site on the web. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about  everything.
