Here's my butt rubbed and ready to go in as soon as I get back from my run in the morning. I rubbed it with Plochman's and my rub mix which I wrote down initially but altered it several times so I don't know where I am now. I was really pleased with my first try but it took almost 15 hrs! I know that this one will probably be the same but I just couldn't believe how long it took...but also couldn't believe how good it was so that's an even trade I'd say. I plan on smoking it with a mix of hickory and apple...anybody have an opinion on Pecan or Cherry in this application? I'm going to spritz it every hour or so with apple cider vinegar and have a mix of apple juice and water in the drip pan.

A little about me-I'm in my mid 30's, I have one child and one in the hopper. I farm and my wife currently stays at home and takes care of the boy. She's also attending school in the fall at the U of I. We're plenty busy but of all the hobbies I've tried, Smoking various meats is the only one i've really latched on to. I appreciate any of your guys comments and advice on my journey, Thanks!

P.S. I will try to post more photos as this thing progresses

Pecan and cherry is cool combo... I don't spritz because I think you get a darker bark.

[IMG]to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!
