  1. Hello everyone. I've been "Brining" in here the last couple of days trying to absorb some tips before i do my first smoke. I have a Silver Smoker and was looking for info on it when I came across this site. It seems to be populated by people who are willing to help others improve their craft so I thought I'd join today. I've been trying to learn about some of the baffle and tuning mods. Are they necessary to start out with? Which is better spaced plates or holes drilled in a single plate and has anyone used a design that allows them to be removed so it can be used as a grill also? I have not had time to do a thorough search yet.

    Thanks,

    Martin

    Hi Martin,

The mods aren't necessary to begin with but you will benefit from them greatly.

Welcome to SMF Grillin...... Like raptor said the mods aren't necessary to begin...I made some mods on my offset.... I have done some advaced modifications and have a reverse flow plate installed for more even heat.... You can get some aluminum flashing form Lowe's and start with a easy mod by placing it up inside your stack and lowering the smokers exhaust down to the grate to hold more heat...... You can see in a pic in the link the stack is down to the grate......

Heres the link to my mods       http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/110134/braunfel-reverse-flow-modification

    Good luck and happy smoking

First off welcome to SMF there Martin. You'll really like this place for there are a bunch of really good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking meat. Then if you have any questions you just post them here or yu can try in chat for a faster answer. If you are really new to all of this I would recommend that you look up and take the e-course. It is free and it will also give you the basics on smoking. So with all that said now go and get something to smoke.

    Welcome To Your New Addiction
